Brackets are pieces of metal, wood, or plastic that are fastened to a wall in order to support something such as a shelf.

If two or more people or thingsare bracketed together, they are considered to be similar or related in some way.

Brackets are a pair of written marks that you place round a word, expression, or sentence in order to indicate that you are giving extra information. In British English, curved marks like these are also calledbrackets, but in American English, they are calledparentheses .

5.（数学上的）括号
Brackets are pair of marks that are placed around a series of symbols in a mathematical expression to indicate that those symbols function as one item within the expression.

1. bracket用作名词作“括弧”解时,狭义来说是指方括弧,广义不严格地说可指任何括弧(如(),〈〉,｛｝等),常用复数形式。
2. bracket也可作“等级,类别层次”解,指按一定标准(如年龄、收入等)把人分成某一类或某一阶级。bracket还可作“壁架,托架”解,一般指用木或金属制成,用来固定在墙上以托住搁板。
